Everest Base Camp (8)

Day09 (14 October 2009) -- the returning journey continues to Phortse (from Pheriche). The is a different route to return to Namche Bazaar. When I discussed with Ram, the committed main mountain guide, he was very excited trying to lead us the different way to return so we get to see different scenery. Thank you Ram !

Please click here to view Photo Album #8 for photos taken by yours truly (KC).

The ice-capped mountains in this photo really look majestic ... Alexis

There is a landing ground for helicopter at Pheriche to pick up trekkers who need medical evacuation. So this helicopter must have come from Pheriche.

Arriving at Pangboche for a morning tea break. Since there is another route to EBC, Pangboche is a bit quiet with lesser trekkers passing by here.

This Napelese lady is drying the dungs vertically. When the dungs are dried, they would fall to the ground (automatic method to know that the dungs are dried).

Fiona ... passing through one of the cliffs. Quite interestingly, though we are going to lower ground, there were quite a fair bit of uphill climb in this route.

Good timing -- despite the distance, the timing is right for Fiona to pose for the camera (by raising both hands). According to her, she is sending out SOS signals... :-) Refer to photo album for bigger and clearer frame.

Arriving at Phortse (3,810m). The group is putting up a night in the Sonam lodge... yours truly (KC)

Room with a view -- The wall in the room is lined with carpet for sound-proofing. My duffle bag (green) is on the floor; backpack at left; in the middle of the bed is the sleeping bag (provided by trekking agent). WongFK is my roommate (on the opposite side of my bed).

Fiona ... not only the heater can warm the dining room, at the same time, it can boil a kettle of water which can cost RM 20 per flask !!

Day 10 (15 October 2009) -- from Phortse to Namche Bazar (3,440m)

This is Phortse from a distance (the opposite mountain). It is actually nested on a plain high in the mountain. The red arrow showing the journey from Pheriche to Phortse... Alexis.

With a lower altitude, we see more plants and lesser ice-capped mountains... Sharon Tan
