Mt KK Climbathon 2nd Training

As planned, we went for the second climbathon training at Gunung Nuang by running to Camp Pacat. This morning, the group is small compared to last Saturday's trekking trip to the peak of Gunung Nuang via Janda Baik (35 members).

The low turnout is partly due to a some of the runners for Mt KK Climbathon were taking part in the road race of Seremban Half marathon (Sunday 11 July). On the other hand, the Mount Fuji trekking group (yours truly is one of them also) is intensify the weight backpack training by trekking up Gunung Kutu at Kuala Kubu Baru.

With the heavy rainfall for the past few days (and also since the past few weeks), the trail going to Camp Pacat was muddy and slippery. While runners running on the road will have to be wary of the traffic and bad air; runners in off-road trail challenge will have to rely heavily on a pair of good traction running shoes in order not to fall due to the slippery surface while maintaining the necessary pace.

To add on to the difficulty of running up slopes, there are actually four major crossings of stream from Camp Lolo to Camp Pacat. With the raised level of water, landing on rocks to ensure a dry journey required careful and precise judgment.

This is a brand new shower room to refresh at the base of Gunung Nuang. Excellent facility!

(as for me, this will sure to cause muscle cramp) ... :-)

About the New Balance 875 off-road running shoes: I am quite impressed and satisfied with this pair of good traction shoes (though I have not got the opportunity to compare with others). There wasn't any slip at all even when running down from Camp Pacat to Camp Lolo that took me only 45 minutes. I was actually running downhill on yellow earth which was not possible with the usual road running shoes. I was told by Peter Chan, one of the Mount KK Climbathon members, that New Balance has a newer model of 876. Click here.
